Wiping iPhone 3GS that's already jailbroken and unlocked

A friend just lent me a 3GS that's jailbroken and unlocked. I need to wipe the phone but can't lose the unlock in the process.

It's a 16GB 3GS, model MB715LL, software 5.0 (9A334), carrier AT&T 11.0, modem firmware 05.16.05

Any help would be appreciated!
 
That 3Gs appears to be old enough that it can be unlocked via AT&T. Have you tried unlocking it that way?

Looking at the Cydia app, ultrasn0w 1.2.7 is installed on this phone...

Interesting.
But ultrasnow doesnt unlock baseband version 05.16.05
Maybe your friend is mistakenly thinking this phone is unlocked when its not.
These are the basebands eligible for unlock with ultrasnow:
•01.59.00
•04.26.08
•05.11.07
•05.12.01
•05.13.04
•06.15.00

You can still install ultrasnow, it just wont do anything.
Test out another carriers sim if you have one laying around.
Also depending on the date the particular phone was manufactured you might be able to downgrade the baseband to 05.13.04 with redsnow. Then that version will be unlockable.
Its a multiple steps process. You have to install the ipad bb first, then downgrade it, then make a custom 5.1.1 ipsw with redsnow, then restore to that etc...
But before we get ahead of ourselves, one step at a time:)
 
AT&T will unlock that phone for you. Have them or the person you got it from unlock it for you via AT&T.
 
You can erase all the content in your iTunes and sync your phone afterwards. This will remove all items on your phone regarding apps, music, and videos.

Doing a reset to through your iPhone shouldn't cause a lot of problems, but that's up to you to decide.

If you wish to do a complete restore, you will definitely lose your jailbreak and unlock.
 
Never do a reset on the iPhone if the iPhone is jailbroken. Never. You will have to do a DFU restore to get it working again.

An erase all wont work on a JB iphone with 5.0 and higher.
It will just error out and wont erase anything.
An erase all on anything 4.3.5 and lower will put your iphone in a boot loop and you will need a dfu restore.
The other option of syncing with an empty library will also work.
Then all you gotta do is remove all appstore apps, log out of your itunes login and clear your texts and email accounts.
