How safe is the mail app?

Is it safe to use the apple mail app on iPad? I have some confidential emails on my email account so I don't want someone to like be able to read it. I know iPad doesn't have firewall

If your mail server has encryption you should be fine. Also, consider using a VPN for extra security. What kind of a setup do you have? I.e. exchange server or POP/IMAP, version of exchange, hosted by you or someone else....
 
I think you'll be fine. Been using mail app since the beginning and have never been hacked or anything. Just keep secure passwords and stick to the well known mail providers (gmail, aol, yahoo, apple etc.)
 
Make sure the Use SSL switch is ON in your mail account settings, and the transmission of emails to your and from iPad will be secure.

Use a passcode on your iPad, and disable the Simple Passcode option so you have to use a real password. Use a secure password.
