My school just got wifi installed, however they have blocked everything from Facebook to pandora. I have an iPhone 4S, running iOS 6 b4. However I am willing to downgrade and jailbreak if needed. My question is how can I get around the schools blocked network?

Unless you get into their server and open up those restricted ports and websites again.
Use your carriers data instead.
Im not sure if you can use proxy to stream data such as music and videos etc. Maybe you could use a proxy for a few websites like facebook but it would have to be done through browsers that allow proxy surfing and not apps on the phone.
Yea you could, theres an app called VPN express, if you get it and use the VPN you could open any website

so it bypasses the government so im sure itll bypass the school xDHowever the first 300 MB is free after that you have to get a subscription with time or data, so like 5 GB is like 4$ and **** like that

I know this doesn't answer the OP, but at school you should be learning, not on Facebook - just something to bear in mind.
I would like it mostly for pandora. I have three hours of CAD and like to listen to music when I'm drawing. It helps me focus, so I am bearing in mind I should be leaning. Thanks for your Concern and help with the issue on hand.
Yes, but I don't like that for two reasons.
1) I have to pay for that
2) pandora will play me songs I have never heard so I allows me to find new bands I wouldn't have known if I bought the songs normally.
You have to pay for an internet connection at your home, and so does the state at the school - why should they offer you free music streaming?
Why wouldn't they? It does not cost them anymore, and the use of music players is allowed in our handbook. I did not start this thread to argue with people about if the school should or shouldn't offer streaming of pandora, I started it to find ways around it. If anyone has any information about that please post.
One person streaming music most likely wont effect the network at all, but if loads of people start doing this then the network will really slow down. Network admins try to stop this kind of stuff for a reason, that reason being the large amount of bandwidth required.

If they have done it by dns, change your DNS settings on your phone to use somethings else (8.8.8.8 for instance is googles).
VPN is certainly another option, if you have a computer at home you can set up a vpn server there and link to it via iphone - then all traffic you use goes through your connection at home, ergo unrestricted. Easy to set up with standard windows tools, or easyvpn for mac.

Yes I do understand that, however my High School has a total of about 200 students. Only 75-100 with smart phones, even less that would ever realistically stream music. I don't think that running out of bandwidth would be that much of an issue, but obviously I'm not an expert so I could be wrong.
I'm talking bandwidth over the school network. They will want to keep the available bandwidth as high as possible to give the clients (computers being used for school work/teaching not for pandora) the greatest speeds in use.
I don't know the school's network setup so I can't really tell you too much on this one - they may already be running close to max capacity.
The other thing to consider the number of available IP's, institutions normally only buy enough to fit and block of wifi to phones and laptops because these devices will automatically seek an IP and kick other machines off the network, often which ever machine was turned on first.
But most of that info is governed by the schools network setup, that's how it is at my school.
You can try, normally they have a little over capacity for these things anyway.
Me and a friend found the best way was to get to know the IT technician and then ask him for the password, if he won't give it out then ask him to enter it on your phone, then the device will remember it but you would never know it - hence you can't tell the whole school.

Very few, if any, self centered people understand or care about this. They want, what they want, when they want it. If everyone else's Internet access slows to a crawl, tough. And the suggestion to pay for something? Pfft! That's someone else's job, too.
I am agreeing with you. One person streaming music is no big deal. Dozens of people would be. Most people never ask themselves the question, "What if everyone did this?" They don't ask themselves the question because as long as they get what they want, they don't care.
If you are on iOS, you can download Opera Mini browser as an app. Then click the "O" in the middle of the bar on the bottom and go to the savings option and select Opera Mini. You should be able to connect to any website now!
