iPhone = 3.5 inches
iPhone 3G = 3.5 inches
iPhone 3Gs = 3.5 inches
iPhone 4 = 3.5 inches
iPhone 4s = 3.5 inches

iPhone 5 = 4 inches?
iPhone 5s = 4 inches?
iPhone 6 = 4 inches?
iPhone 6s = 4 inches?
iPhone 7 = 4 inches?

Do you think Apple will stick with the taller 4 inch screen for the next 5 generations like they did at 3.5 inch screen?

Seems like if they ever did increase the size further (say 4.3 inches) that they would HAVE to make it a wider display instead of simply taller.

Sorry but did you really need to write out the screen sized for every one to understand what you were saying?

Of course if they make it bigger it will have to get wider. I don't think they will wait another 5 phones to do it though. I bet 3-4 years and it won't be a huge increase, probably 4.3" or so. It's apple after all.

How big do you want the damn phone to be? Just strap the iPad to your head and remove all doubt about it.

I really don't think super large devices are necessary. I'm seriously happy with the size it is now.

If it becomes a large enough issue, it would probably be after the 5S that they make any changes to the device. The 'S" upgrades never would get a redesign.

One of the core ergonomic goals of the iPhone was to be able to access the entire screen with one hand using your thumb. My guess is that is why they kept the width. That may change sooner than you think.

IF they increased the screen size by scaling, I would imagine it would be minimal - a few mm if they can squeeze the screen edge to edge with the frame. That might eek out a 4.3" maybe. That might be acceptable. But I for one would not want the device itself getting any bigger than the purported 'iP5' looks now.

I've seen a few people walking around talking on Galaxy Notes and they look like absolute prats.

if you want a monster phone, maybe the mysterious 3G iPad mini will get call-making functionality and bundled in-line headphones? ... yeah right!

How big is too big for a cellphone though?
You dont want having to whip out a tablet against your ear:D

Many people are extremely closed-minded when it comes to this.

iPhone = perfect size
Galaxy SIII = too big

3.5 inch to 4.8 inch

4.3 inch would be perfect.

Increase the overall size a little big = more battery.

Larger screens are slowing down innovation. Innovation and the future of mobile communication is wearable devices that don't require input by hand. Screens should be wearable and input shoud mostly be voice with other secondary options. This whole desire for larger screens is a step backward.

Google seems to be innovating in that area. I can only hope Apple secretly is as well.

I don't like wearing my electronics actually. I would like holographic stuff coming to life in front of me whenever i want to do something on a device rather. Like what Stark does in iron man (except for his wearable iron man armor)

People don't want wearable phones and tactical displays and holograms, they want bigger screens.

(I'm basing this on the smartphone market.)

The way I see it is that Google is offering bigger screens while innovating with new tech (outside of their Android business). Some of them are just weird but the glasses thing they did is an example, tons of other stuff.

You can't base it on a market that doesn't offer both. Duh!

I say get rid of the big screens and speed up innovation of their options such as Google Glass.

Nope.

Right now the market wants large screens.

If the market wanted all those things...well they would be in the market.

Nope, right now the market only has one choice. You can't say they won't choose wearable options until the options exist in the market.

And since the tech isn't ready, your statement is absurd.

Edit: by your logic, a car that drives me to work automatically doesn't exist on the market because nobody wants one? nope, it's because the tech is still in development.

All the haters love to exaggerate the size of Androids with modern sized displays.

Here's the facts, as hard as they may be to face.

135.5 x 67.9 x 8.9 mm - 4.65" display - Nexus

115.2 x 58.6 x 9.3 mm - 3.50" display - iPhone 4S

I see loads of girls at the university carrying Androids like this.
Perhaps some of the boys here, are just not up to it :)

The current iPhone screen is just right.

Bigger is not better when it comes to something you carry in your pocket.
