rMBP : LED on power adapter never lights up, why?

I have a rMBP with 85W magsafe poer adapter

The led light on the magnetic connector of the power adapter does not light up ....(red/green....)

It showed red briefly on the first day of use and has never come on again since....

...

The macbook however does charge so not sure the importance of the LED not lighting up.

When should the red light come on?
Should I be returning the adapter to the mac store?

At the very least call Applecare so that they have evidence of your problem if it malfunctions in the future and you decide not to turn it in now.
 
I have followed the instructions above to reset the SMC and that has not made any difference :(

I have booked an appointment at the apple store today.

Is is right that the LED should always show?, I don't want to be told at the apple store not to worry about it ... especially after having paid such a high premium on this laptop ....

Yeah, but if the problem is within the computer it will not matter which charging unit is on it. He should try the SMC recommendation first.

I have tried the SMC reset suggested and no change ...

I have will be off to the store in 3 hrs so will see what the so called 'genius' think about it :)
 
I went into the apple store and they replaced the power adapter.

All is now working at it should. Hurray !
