restless sleep for Mac Pro

Hi all, just wondering if this is normal as it really seemed to start when installing Lion.

When my 2008 Mac Pro sleeps the fans start whirring and it sounds like the processors are working hard. This also happens when I'm using the OS X host machine while the guest Windows machine starts sleeping.

Is this normal? It seems counter-intuitive to have 8 processors working at 30-50%+ while "sleeping"......
