I got a software tool called Scannerz some time ago for doing hard drive tests. I thought it did basic drive tests. In their ads they mention it's "Hardware oriented" which I admit I didn't completely understand.

Today I got a notice telling me that they now have a free downloadable book on hard drive troubleshooting. I was really really surprised at all the things that thing could be tested with that product and how many things could go wrong with a drive.

The book isn't about their product it's about hard drive and system problems, but as you can guess, they put some pitches in for their product once in a while, but I don't think it's overzealous. You can get it from the downloads section of their web site at:

Hope you enjoy it.
