So of course we don't know the real specs yet, or even if the rumored $329 is correct. But just for fun let's say it is an ~8" iPad, 1024x768 (non-Retina) display, A5 processor, 16 GB storage, WiFi-only, for $329. In other words, the guts of an iPhone 4S attached to a smaller iPad2 display. What do you think?

For the specs and price you outlined, the decision would be made easy . I'd get a 32gb Nexus 7 for $250 every day of the week

btw you mean 16GB storage capacity and 1GB of RAM right?

Apple can do just fine without joining the race to the bottom.

Look at the Ultrabooks. Apple created the category, and other PC makers are matching Apple's price, avoiding the no-profit competitive commodity market.

I think that Apple still offers extra value that warrants a higher price.

no it's a joke thats a mini verison. goes against the point of having a another verison which you can afford.

Speculation only....

1. iPad Mini with 16 GB/WiFi should be only $299.99 not a dime more

2. iPad Mini with 16 GB & 3G should be only $349.99

3. iPad Mini with 16 GB w/4G & Retina than I would say $399.99

$329.00 with only 16 GB/No retina/WiFi only is a stretch when you have Nexus 7 & 32 GB for $250.00. A no go for me.

Agree spending more than $399.99. Might as well wait for ipad 4.

I think the other rumors I've seen are more reasonable: a skimpy 8Gb WiFi model for $299 (for cheap people and the ability to market "starting at $299") with the 16Gb model for $349.

Definitely no. How Apple will compete with Nexus 7 and Amazon fire HD?

You say "compete" like the Nexus 7 and Kindle Fire are actually threats to the iPad's dominance. You know how many Nexus 7's were sold in Q3? 1 million. Apple, on the other hand, sold 17 million in Q2 (Q3 earnings aren't out yet). They can price this at $500 and stay dominant.

$350 for 16GB/4G model would have been a decent price in my mind. And a smaller gap between WIFI only and 4G models.

In my opinion, $299 is about the most they should charge for the base Wi-fi model. For $329, it would want the A6 chip and the Retina display.

I don't think you get both ... It's more like A6 or Retina. In this case Retina is my preference. Performance on my iPad3 is more then enough. But the screen is just too good.

Apple is a premium brand. $329 is more than appropriate. iPad shouldn't be lowered to the level of Kindle and Nexus.

Goodness. You give in to easily. And no, for those with half a brain, $329 for 16 GB, no retina and wifi only is not appropriate. It would be classic Apple, but not appropriate. $329 for retina/16 GB and 3G might be in my opinion, but Apple does not listen to me.....

The interesting thing I find about the backlash towards the the iPad Mini's price (and the price of Androids Tabs) is that no one questions the price of iPhones.

The 4S had a smaller screen and essentially the same specs as the iPad Mini but people bought that for $600+ with no problems but a $329 iPad is suddenly too much?

I'm not saying it's bad that people are talking about this, just that it's interesting.
