I reapplied the thermal paste on my Macbook pro 13 mid 2012 with one from Cooler Master and am having CPU temperatures lower than about 6-7 degrees across the range of use.
It was not easy, the cable of the backlight of the keyboard and the keyboard cable must have the highest attention, but the iFixit guide was very useful as always.
These are the CPU and the Heatsink after the disassembly
As you can see, Apple is not very precise when applying thermal paste
Here are the CPU and heatsink after a good clean
I was surprised that the GPU does not have the heat sink
Here is how i applied the grease; a very thin layer
I tried to do a job as clean as possible, almost invisible, even though I know I will almost certainly invalidate the Macbook warranty, however, had already been a while that I wanted to do because I find that the temperatures are too high, and although in itself do not cause immediate damage, over time can damage my computer
