I recently had my logicboard replaced for a known issue with the video card. The issue was the screen would blackout and required me to shut it down before I could resume working until it would do it again. It was completely random, but thankfully it was recognized by Apple and they extended the warranty to repair this issue.

Ever since I received the laptop back from the authorized repair depot, I have a new problem. The volume icon on my laptop voluntarily (and very randomly) greys out as if there is no audio installed. It happens very sporadically, sometimes not for a day or two, other times it'll happen many times in a few minutes. The issue happens across any audio medium, as well as video (in chrome, itunes, VLC, netflix etc.) If video is playing, the video will freeze and the audio will drop out (along with the greying of the volume icon) then, eventually the icon will turn black again, the video will start playing and everything will be fine. Ocassionally, instead of the volume icon completely greying out, the volume icon will go from very low volume (two bars) to maximum volume (full bars).

When I returned the laptop back to the authorized repair depot, they could not replicate the issue. Since i have 7 videos shot using my iphone of this issue happening, I sent the tech the videos and despite seeing this, he still could not make any kind of diagnosis and asked me to create a new user, test this in the new user profile and if the issue still occurs, erase and reinstall the OS.

My apologies for the long post, but has ANYONE heard of, or seen something like this? The tech has been in touch with Apple and Apple still thinks this is software related.
