I have a new mid 2012 13" MacBook Pro.

I replaced the stock 500GB HD with a OCZ 120GB Solid 3 SSD today.

I was shocked by my geekbench results and I am not quite sure what to think of it. I dropped from 5900 to 2700!

Any ideas?

have you done a clean install?

I dont trust sandforce drives, so I would actually return that thing and get a samsung 830

It definitely feels slower.

Ah. Well as suggested above, a clean install may fix the issue? Also, Sandforce drives aren't exactly the most reliable things out there. I'd probably pick up a Samsung 830 or even a Crucial M4 if possible.

So the only explanation would be the drive is faulty?

It was not a fresh install. I did a restore from a backup I had on my Apple Time Capsule.

It's possible that something was messed up during the restore. Try a fresh install and see if the geek bench score improves.

Well from my experience, I gotta disagree.

I did a fresh OS X install and scored 6400. That is 500 points higher than when the laptop was fresh out of the box.

Looks like the restore process really messed things up.

Thanks for all your help guys!

Glad to hear you got it working!

Whats awesome is that Geekbench in no way tests the Hard Drive.

You're correct in that it doesn't test the hard drive nor include any hard drive related results, but an SSD will get a slightly higher score.

I've only heard bad things about the reliability of OCZ SSD's (on both OS X and Windows). I'll stick with Samsung, OWC, or Crucial.

I didn't buy this SSD. It was an older drive I had installed in my Mac mini that I wanted to test drive before I decide to get a bigger SSD for this laptop.

I am running migration assistant right now to restore all the data. Hopefully my score wont drop too much.

Your GB score shouldn't drop at all after you finish migrating everything.

I have noticed that running GB several times in a row will get different scores, but they're only off by a few points. I assume that's just because assorted processes are running in the background by the OS. (You should kill all apps before running GB to get the most accurate score)

After a full migration, my GB score went up 50 points so it was completely successful.

It really sucks that a migration won't restore all my programs and email settings. I got tons of work to get it all back to the way it was. LAME!

Was spotlight indexing your new drive while geekbench was running? Sounds like something may have been competing for CPU cycles.

I have a Hybrid XT on my MacBook Pro and it has a GB rating of 3327.

Why don't you run blackmagic? Its not uber-precise, but will give you an idea. The SSD on my rMBP yields a 450 read (hits the limit), 404 write. Others here have reported their scores when upgrading SSDs. Just search the forum.

You better hurry!! Samsung 830 is being phased out for samsung 840. And sandforce drives are not necessary as bad as they are made out to be in some some of these forums

Lower Score after Samsung 840 Pro 512 - Index Issue?

Whoever mentioned indexing might be right. My score dropped almost 2000 points but it is indexing. I upgraded from an M4 128 to the Samsung. I will report back once the index finishes and I run GB again!

IT WAS THE INDEXING! Score is back up to 9800 roughly with a early 2011 2.2 Core i7, 8 GB Ram and aforementioned Samsung.

This thing is even faster now
