Refurbished iMacs price increase for US!

The US Online Apple Store has increased their prices on refurbished iMacs for some models

$979 21" 2.5GHz --> $979

$1189 21" 2.7GHz --> $1249

$1359 27" 2.7GHz --> $1419

$1599 27" 3.1GHz --> $1659

It's not exactly a lot. Probably because those aren't refurbished but what was left of stock. So completely "new" hardware.

You're probably right. It could also be the fact that there are no Imacs around and thus Apple was able to put prices up a bit on refurbs due to demand.

has this ever happened before? according to the buying guide here on MR it says that they are supposed to bottom out in price....not increase at the end of their life cycles.

The increase of demand is because of the increase of price of the new iMacs! I think the specifications of new iMacs are generally much better than the old iMacs....
 
You can't buy a new one at the moment, so if you must buy now, it's your only choice -- hence the higher price. If the new models were available at announcement then you would see a drop in price of the old models.

Another poster posits it's because the new imac is not meeting needs.

Only for people who want to do their own upgrades on the 21 or want an internal Superdrive.

Really that's a tiny percent of the imac buying public. Although I do think that some of the general public are under the assumption the new iMac no longer has the ability to access disk media. That unfortunately is something apple should address to assuage fears for those who aren't tech savvy enough to know better.
 
They lower the prices of them when the 2012 iMacs were announced and the price bump that just happened is still the same price as they were and lower in some instances.
