I ran very often into text input fields on iOS 4.2 that are too small for the content. Macrumors mobile is such a horrible example. If you edit a post, you only see 3 lines of text. And besides that, I think the finger-cursor-position idea only works roughly. If you need to be at the far edges of content this way of pointing is very cumbersome. So arrow keys are desperately needed for the fine tweaks in selections.

My question: can you hack the keyboard layout of iOs and add arrow keys. For example ditch some valuta symbols and replace them with arrow keys?

I had this on iOS 2 with Jailbreak.
Then I just added korean or some obscure language to the globe button on the keyboard, and I got all these nice buttons like arrows and stuff.
 
I think you can only theme keyboards not add extra buttons for functionality.
