Does that mean the iPad mini could have been even thinner?!?
(And probably the next one will be just by using a laminated screen?)

Perhaps it's due to lower yields or higher prices of laminated screens that they went without one.

Though with a device built for carrying, I wonder how long before annoying dust gets trapped between the layers...
 
iPhone 5 uses in cell technology (touch control is integrated into the LCD). Neither iPad features this.

This is different to lamination.

New MacBooks and iMacs have laminated screens (display laminated to glass)
