Samsung Se-208 DVD Drive - Not Working

I have got a external DVD writer for my Mac mini, a Samsung SE-208 DVD drive which should be compatible with my mac no problems. However when I plug it in it does not show up as a drive nor does any disks I put in it.

Any ideas on whats wrong and how to fix or to take it back as faulty.
