I was all set to pull the trigger on one of the 2.3 gig retina's at B&H and they apparently can't sell applecare in the state of florida.

I hopped on chat and they said if I had an out of state billing address they could still ship to florida. Anyone tried this with a prepaid visa card? can you set any billing address you want with those?

Thanks

I'm about to buy one from B&H as well. Can't you just buy Applecare later directly from Apple? That's what I am planning on doing.

So you couldn't even get a friend/relative outside of FL to purchase it at B&H later? If you're a FL resident, it's buy from Apple or not at all?

B&H cannot sell applecare warranties to anyone with a billing address in the state of florida, they can ship them to florida, but your billing address cannot be in florida. You can't buy it separately from B&H either, they simply cannot sell them in florida.

You can buy them direct from apple or anyone else who sells applecare after you buy the macbook from b&h, however B&H has a special, applecare is 50% off $122, its going to be $244 from apple.

Wow you cant get them in Florida?
I remember B&H having a great deal on 17/15in MBPs.
Only 250USD for a 350USD AppleCare was a great deal.

In Florida you can only buy extended warranty from the manufacture--Apple. Just get it from them later.

Not exactly true. You can't buy extended warranty the time of purchase. You can buy AppleCare from a third party later then activate it. Some ill-advised consumer protection law to prevent the blue hairs from being taken advantage of.

Really?--that makes more sense. I will just get it from Amazon sometime this year. Thanks. :)

Amazon has a disclaimer on all of their applecare products that says they cannot ship it to florida.

----------

From amazon:
AppleCare Protection Plan (APP) Sales into the State of Florida
Resellers are not permitted to sell the AppleCare Protection to consumers in the State of Florida. Consumers resident in Florida may purchase the APP from Apple directly through the Apple Retail Stores or the Apple Online Store (store.apple.com).

True--that's where I first saw anything about this Florida law--but it is interesting that you can still put Applecare in your shopping cart--not sure if they would ship it or not--I may give it a try just to see what happens. Or maybe someone has already tried it from Florida.

AppleCare for residents in Florida

i want to buy the AppleCare from B&H store in NYC, but I live in Florida.

I spoke to several Apple agents, they have different opinions about their policies.

Two of the agents told me that I CAN buy it from B&H with no worries.

when i bought my mba at the apple store i was offered applecare and i said "no thanks ill just get it from b&h its way cheaper" and the guy went to his manager and offered me the same price as b&h if i made the purchase along with the mba that night.. that was in nj though, but you might want to give that a shot?

The price difference is $150.00 as today, probably is worth a try.

WOW! I just ran onto this issue today on B&H. I talk to live chat on B&H then they said I have to get it from Apple because of that law. So I went to the apple store online and tried to check out and I get this message "We're sorry, but service is not available in this location." I'll call next I guess.

Ran into this last year given same excuses. ordered MBP from B&H called Adorama who had no problem shipping Applecare to me in Florida, only slightly more than B&H but a heck of a lot less than Apple.

If you qualify for the education discount, AppleCare is cheaper from apple than from B&H. At least for a 15 inch MacBook Pro, that is......not sure about other items.

You can easily find Applecare for less than B&H. Does not matter which dealer sells to you.

Just to update this thread. Since I live in FL, Apple online and B&H would not sell me Applecare but Adaroma did. They had it for the same price at B&H. I ordered it last week with no problems from their web site. It arrived the other day and registered it on Apple's web site yesterday with no problems.

Thank you for your post. I also live in FL, and was unable to buy from Apple.com. The chat guy said I couldn't get Applecare at all, and after I told him I already had Applecare on other products, he went and "asked" and then corrected himself and said I could buy it, but from a store. He did not tell me about a special number I could call.

I tried buying from B&H but it would not ship to my address. Thanks to your post I ordered from Adorama.

If you have a relative in another state, ask him/her to buy it and use the automatic register, this way no shipping is required from your relative to you. I did that since they didn't ship to PR, paid $180 for the 13 inch rMBP Applecare.
