I had my 2010 13" MBP's battery replaced by Apple yesterday and now I'm showing I have like 3:45 remaining on a full charge. I looked around online and it says I should be getting up to 10 hours. I'd be fine if it said I have 8 hours remaining but <4??

Do these take a few days or something to calibrate? I know they're supposed to be precalibrated but when they're replaced is there something it needs to go through?

I'll call up AppleCare in a few days and see what they say.

just let it run for a few days it needs time to come upto its full potential. Calibrating it can also help

Calibrate the battery and the battery estimate depends on what processes you are doing at the time, brightness, etc. Apple usually does tests with half brightness, so if your brightness is turned up really high it would show a lot less.
When they say "up to 10 hours", thats all it is. Under a light load at medium brightness, you can get 10 hours. But with wifi on, brightness high, and some intensive processing this decreases dramatically. For example, I can get 4-5 hours out of my (old) battery with brightness down to a minimum, wifi off, and only quicktime running. But I only get an 1.5 hours or so with 3/4 brightness, Chrome running with 40+ tabs, wifi on, mail running, itunes, etc.

What kind of battery time did you used to get?

I think I used to get about 3-4 hours, never really paid much attention to it. I have brightness at it's 2nd to lowest setting (lowest being off), have a few tabs opened on Safari, nothing too exciting through, and keyboard backlight off. BT is off, wifi on.

Right now it's at 89% with 5:51 remaining. Maybe my system has to get used to having a new battery.

As above folks stated, give it some time.. New Parts = Learning Curve for the diagnostics of machine and its internal runnings.. I suspect easiest to explain it much like the way your Fuel Economy Meter in a car is when you switch from Highway to City driving, the 'distance to empty' will take a while to Re-learn itself.. I am quite sure it will 'equalize' in a few days.. or weeks..

Please Sir, Step Away from the Machine :D

Other variables that affect the remaining battery time reading are the mail app and flash even if the two are running in the background.

It
Depends
On
Your
Usage!

A previous poster mentioned the difference between highway and city MPG. This is a good comparison, however a laptop is much more extreme. The power usage under load (e.g. gaming, video playback, Skype) can easily be 5x as much as when the machine is idle (e.g. reading text, no programs running in background).

Yeah, I understand that. I had it on like 1/4 brightness and really nothing opened or going on.
