Hi All,

I tried searching the forum but could not find any thread related to this topic so decided to open one (what the hec*, it's monday :)). So i wanted to buy a cover with keyboard for my ipad wanted to get a decent one, and i particularly like the surface's touch cover. I was wondering if touch cover will work with Ipad (4th generation). Has any one successfully paired it with ipad ? Please post your thoughts/Helps.

Thanks

They are not compatible. The Touch Cover is not usuable via BlueTooth and is physically connected to the Surface via it's propriatatry charging port. It might be possibly to attach as USB adapter to your iPad and then plug it in to the Surface with the Surace charging/data cable, but I doubt that would even work.

As the others have said, the two are not compatible. I have both a Surface RT w/TouchCover and an iPad4 w/Logitech Ultrathin keyboard cover.

I have found that the Ultrathin keyboard for the iPad is a very nice high quality option for the iPad. The big issue with using a keyboard with the iPad is the expectation of having a mouse/trackpad. Typing on the keyboard feels so natural that you'll find yourself reaching for or wishing for a mouse/trackpad.

The TouchCase for the Surface is surprisingly well done. The fact that the touchpad is multitouch is just icing on the cake.

New news, hot off the presses...

Microsoft released a bluetooth adapter for the type covers.

I'm sure Microsoft will sell millions, just like they are doing with the Surface.

not
I know it's fun to take a cheap shot at Microsoft, but they did sell 1.2million Surface tablets. Certainly minuscule compared to the number of iPads sold, but they DID sell over a million.

Is that sales or shipments? The Ngage shipped 400,000 units (claimed as sold), but in reality not even 100,000 had actually hit consumers.

Wow, that's a lot better than I expected to be honest.

I almost bought one, but it didn't look worth it.

IMO it is worth the $199 for the 32GB RT w/TouchCase they've been firesaled.
MicroSD card and full USB support is really outstanding. I was able to simply connect my Blue Yeti microphone and it works... In contrast I needed to buy a powered USB hub and the USB dongle to get it to work with my iPad 4.

And they took a 900 MILLION dollar loss on them.

Your original point was that they didn't sell "millions". They did indeed sell over a million.

But if you want to continue to bash Microsoft go ahead...

As has been pointed out,1.2 million is not millions.

It is not bashing but just stating actual numbers. They sold 300K of combined Surface + Surface PRO and shipped 1.2m to the retail channels. This means lots of returns from the channels. That really accounts for the $950M write downs. So BB has the same issues with their inventory recently. It is a brutal market out there.

Oh yeah? Huh, the Blue Snowball mic works right into a usb adapter without needing a powered hub.

No it wont work

The Touch Cover won't work as an iPad cover because the attachment method is all wrong.

If you don't want to use it as a cover, but as a stand-alone input device, you're still screwed. Even if that bluetooth adapter works, Apple has not exposed a mouse/trackpad API to app developers, so the trackpad portion will not work.

At best you'll have a floppy cover-shaped keyboard with nonfunctional trackpad that doesn't work as a cover.

Yeah, I was surprised too. After running into a problem with the Blue Yeti, I did some searching on the net and discovered that others have the same problem... something about the additional circuitry in the Yeti draws more power than the iPad delivers.

After adding a powered USB hub into the mix, things worked beautifully... which just made me more sad that it needed the powered hub.
