I'm wondering if its possible to force OS X to allow for the higher scaled high DPI modes like 2560x1440 on a 4K monitor. If I try to get mavericks to accept a 5120x2880 scaled resolution (which would be required to make a HiDPI 2560x1440 setting), it won't accept it.
I'm using a real MacBookPro11,1 (13-inch rMBP from 2013). Is there any way to "trick" OS X into thinking that I actually have a MacBookPro11,2 or MacPro6,1 so I can get the higher DPI modes? Of note, I was able to get SST 4K output at 51.75Hz on this thing by modifying the right system files, so I'm not sure why Apple is crippling this thing.
Is there a way to make a real mac think it is a different model by modifying the SMBIOS.plist (like with a hackintosh)?
