Best setup for MB Pro and music production ?

Hi there

I have just bought a new Macbook Pro 15", 2.3, 500GB, 16 GB RAM.

I'm using Logic and Pro Tools for music production, and are also running Native Instruments samples (pretty heavy load). Beside my Mac, I have extra one extra SSD disk and two USB 3 disks (both 1 TB).

My question is this..

What is the best setup for avoiding bottlenecks problems, in terms of audio floating in and out the system ? Would that be to run the software from the internal HD (obviously), and have the heavy instrument samples on the SSD, and then recording it all to the USB 3 disk ?

Any suggestions ? Hope someone can give a good advice.

Cheers and greetings from Denmark

Personally I would store the NI stuff and your DAWs on your internal drive etc and then record to one of the drives and store your samples and stuff on the other external drive.

Your suggested approach sounds to be the best given the gear you've got, but it would be nice to have an SSD boot drive...

Put a robust backup strategy into place. If your data isn't in at least three places, you don't own it.
