Thunderbolt to HDMI problem

hi
i have a 2012 13inch macbook pro, and i have been using a thunderbolt to hdmi cable for the last 2 years with no problems. but now when i use it, it can't detect the extra display, i have ordered a new cable to see if this solves the problem, but i would be grateful if there is something else i can try
