Worth getting the 2013 rMBP?

My laptop has been damaged so I will be getting a new one.

The damage is bad and it's not worth getting it fixed. I had a 2011 13" MBP so is it worth it? I do need a laptop...
 
Who knows your MBP might revive from the dead?

But honestly, check the Buyer's guide on MacRumors.
It says ''Caution Approaching End of Cycle''

It's 250 days on average the rate of refresh for rMBP and its currently day 226.
Wait it out for 30 days, see what apple does.

Until then, try to borrow a laptop from someone.
 
Coming from a 2010 13" cMBP, I just recently bought a 2013 rMBP (after I bought a 2013 MBA), and believe it is worth every penny. I can hardly stand looking at my old cMBP, though I'm keeping it for the time being since it is still the lifelink to all my years vest in files.

The speed is night and day, and the screen is simply amazing. I think it breathes new life into OS X, whatever your experience may be. And I'm sooo excited for Yosemite because I think it would compliment the rMBP in such an exclusive way as iOS 7/8 compliments the iPad Air. If you can get a new MacBook, do it. Don't wait. It only hurts to wait any longer, and there are some great deals going on right now. :) Sent from my MacBook Pro.
 
The Broadwell chips for the 13" rMBP are stated for a Q1 2015 release. However, the quadcore 15" chips won't be out before Q2 2015. It is safe to assume that apple will refresh both laptops together.

As for the midcycle refresh which the buyer's guide is pointing towards, we can expect a small CPU speed bump (100MHz or so) in a few months. If you need the laptop now, you should definitely go for it. The speed bump isn't worth waiting for and the full refresh is too far away in the future.

Yeah I need it urgently basically I can't do any work that I need to do and a small 100mhz is not worth it.

So the MBP isn't close to being updated fully? And with the delayed chips that means we might see a proper refresh in at least 2 months.

No full upgrade for almost a year, I would say. A processor bump is possible once Intel releases the boosted chips.

Make sure that you get at least 8GB ram. I would recommend 2.6GHz/8GB/256GB. However, the refurbished model suggested above is also a good choice.

My dad has a company so we will claim GST returns and the price will be fine, we've decided on the model.

i5, 8GB RAM and the 500GB SSD, so all in all, I super nice one that we will go and pick up tomorrow:D

That's nice! Which i5 are you going for? 2.4GHz or 2.6GHz? The 2.6GHz has a slightly faster GPU too.

Ofcourse it's worth it. It's faster and it has a Retina display.

Every year CPU's get faster but considering I had only a 2011 MBP I wondered if it was worth it.


I am using one currently but due to financial constraints I went for the 256GB model and so far am extremely happy.
 
I used to have a 2011 15" MBP, and now I have a 15" Haswell rMBP. So far, I've enjoyed it greatly. The Retina display is pretty sweet and easy on the eyes once you get used to it.

All that said, at this point in time, I recommend that you consider buying a refurbished unit, and maybe even a refurbished Ivy Bridge Retina model if the price difference is right. To my recollection, the difference in performance from Ivy to Haswell is very minor.

Actually, the difference in performace between Ivy Bridge and Iris 13" rMBP is huge, the HD 4000 in Ivy Bridge is clearly a little underpowered to drive that display. The updated Iris graphics in the Haswell provide a much needed boost.

This. Comparing my rMBP to my cousins 2012 model, I have better performance.

I concede that I was wrong about the graphics performance.
