Best Buy is currently offering a $50 discount Apple's Retina iPad mini as part of a Grad sale, dropping the price of the entry-level tablet to $349. Combined with a student deal that offers an additional $50 off, it's possible to get a Retina iPad mini for as little as $300.

The combined $100 discount is good on any Retina iPad mini, cellular and WiFi and with all storage capacities. To take advantage of the full deal, a valid .EDU email address is required, but prospective buyers without an .EDU email address can still get a $50 discount on any Retina iPad mini.

The $50 grad sale will last from June 19 to June 21, while the $50 student discount will last until July 12.

Best Buy's deep student discounts on 2014 MacBook Air models are still ongoing as well, dropping the price of the entry-level MacBook Air down to $649 with an .EDU email address. Students can also get $150 off any Mac by taking advantage of Best Buy's student deals.

Even if someone only looks at the sticker price and knows nothing about iOS vs Android, at this price the mid-range Android tablets don't stand a chance.

Man, I gotta say that 16GB is pretty useless though. I mean, I understand everyone's usage is different but my 128GB iPad mini R is over half full... 16GB is barely enough for a couple games these days. At least the discount is good on any iPad mini though!

[EDIT] Useless may be the wrong word, but small for these days is a better fit... Sorry about that!

Android users will now have to gather in their thousands in HQ's around the world come up with another reason to why they can't get an Apple tablet and complain indefinitely ;)

This is not entirely true. My 16GB iPad Air has 71 apps installed, 23 of those apps are games and I don't even play them all. 16GB is't enough only if you want to have music/videos on the device.

Never knew Macrumors were getting paid for these stories ;)

Most of the time they aren't, but every now and then I see stories like this.

I do appreciate that they've always had the stance of making sure to mention that it is indeed a paid promotion, and to insert them sparsely. I also like having the option to discuss the details of a particular promotion before I buy anything.

You can fit a decent amount of music on there if you don't require taking your 800 GB library with you everywhere you go. Unfortunately for video, I have a hard time watching anything less than 720p these days...

I wind up listening to music on my iPhone (stored and streaming) because I've found having headphones plugged into the iPad to be mildly cumbersome.

Fair point -- but I still think Apple charges too much for what it is...

Almost tempted to buy one to upgrade my iPad 2, but I am uncomfortable with buying one that doesn't have 4G on it. I rarely ever use it, but when I have needed it, I was happy to have that option.

a refurbished 32GB mini retina is $419, with the grad sale and the .edu sale, that's a savings of $20 ($399). That's pretty nice.

I have a 16gb air and realised it really is small and not enough. I have a WD livebook so all my movies are on there apart from the odd 2 movies that sync from itunes... it's full. I am getting the 128gb air next time im in US though. Hopefully that lasts me a good few years.

The funny thing is not everyone in the world is you...plenty of people will be fine with 16. I'm good with 32 myself.

Yeah gotta have the 4G. It's just way too handy and is only another $10 on the Verizon plan.

Just a reminder: the wifi only iPads DO NOT have GPS on board.

I find it silly that Apple doesn't include GPS in all of their iOS devices by default.

Nexus 7 (2013) refurbs were going for $149/$169 a few days ago (for 16GB/32GB).
These are "WiFi only" devices, but have an amazing GPS chip in them. It gets a quicker, stronger satellite lock than most Android phones out there.

I grabbed one and was pleasantly surprised.

When I got my iPad 2, I made sure and get the Cellular model. Not for the data use, but for the GPS. I've used it on trips before. Its big screen makes a nice mapping and GPS device (I have Navigon on it with a ton of offline maps).

That's a lot of porn... :p
