Where ever my life takes me...
I have a mid 2012 13" MBP with a 2.5GHz processor. Does anyone know if this is the second generation i5?

The reason I ask is because I am interested in purchasing a 16GB memory upgrade (Corsair Vengeance) and the description states that a second generation i5 processes is needed to run at it's full capability.

Is Corsair a good brand?

Yes, to both questions :)

Your laptop CPU is the i5-3210M, which is of the third generation of Core CPUs, so you're good to go.

Corsair is a reliable brand, and generally well regarded. I've had their memory modules, SSDs and power supplies, all have been trouble-free.

You are reading marketing materials, not technical specs. Your computer has a ram type that it needs, and a few generations of processors have used it.
