hard drive cable (SATA) missing a pin??

one of the copper pins on my hard drive cable looks like it broke off.
it's the second one in on the short portion

my normal HDD works in it, but my SSD does not...
is this to be expected?

my HDD also seems to be running a bit slower than normal (mostly taking more time to start up than usual)

i have ordered a new cable... we shall see.
