I see people selling their 5s for 500+ on eBay (used). Which would make buying the iphone 6 at full price more doable.

Anyone else doing this yet?

Not yet, but a lot of people (including me) do this every year.

EDIT: To clarify, I sell my old iPhone after the new one is released.

I've never really understood the point. From what I've observed, you earn $50 more on average selling the current model on eBay a few months ahead of launch day.

Meanwhile, you're using a phone that otherwise would not be your daily driver. Just sounds pointless to me.

Why do it so soon? The 6 isn't expected for nearly 3 months. What's the point of getting the latest iPhone each year if you're only going to use it for 9 months and then probably get by with a cheap phone for 3 months?

If you can get by with a substitute for that long, you probably don't need the newest phone at all, and just want it for the sake of having the newest thing.

It's too late mate. November was the right time to sell a 5s. iPhone 6 is basically already out, I'm even typing from one.

Because the longer you wait the lower the market value goes down.

People selling now will probably get at least $100 more than they would right before the 6 release.

Some people have spare phones they can use in the meantime. Big deal you won't be able to use your iphone for a couple months. 1st world problems.

Is $100 worth not having an iPhone for 3 months (perhaps more is launch stock is tight)? Not for me - it's almost invaluable.

As a poster above said, if you can do without the phone for 25% of the year, you probably only want the new one for the sake of it. If it was two weeks before? Perhaps it would be justified. But three months? Madness.

Tad early for me to sell my iPhone. I usually wait until the new one is released and I have it in my hands.

I'm still debating it. I'll still have a year of Applecare+ left. On the other hand I really want a black iPhone. I didn't end up liking the white and gold iPhone like I thought I would.

Just because they sell there iPhone 5s doesn't mean they don't have something like an iPhone 4 to use in the mean time.

Nah, I did that last year and it took almost 3 months after the 5s was released for the iPhone 5 to have any kind of drop. The 16GB 5S on AT&T will stay valued at $350 - $400 until the end of the year

The bigger first world problem is selling your less than a year old phone so you can buy a new one that hasn't been announced yet, so it really doesn't matter.

I see after I get the new one. I would rather lose a few bucks waiting then living with an old phone for a month or two

I used to, but I don't do it any more. I sell after I get the next version.

I understand that you get a bit more money the sooner you sell, but that's exactly my point about 1st world problems. If you don't actually need your current iPhone for 2 or 3 months, you probably don't need a new one every year at all. You don't see people in the 3rd world buying a new iPhone every year.

Exactly.

Kind of early imo. Now's a great time to request carrier factory unlocks though. Unlocked devices always fetch a bit more.

People that sell so early probably have the iPhone as a fashion symbol and not a necessary communication device. That's why 4 months without their daily phone does not matter to them.

I don't actually have an iPhone, but I know that I wouldn't sell it 3+ months ahead of the next iPhone, otherwise I would be without a phone for 3+ months

If i had a 5S now i wouldn't sell it until at least sometime in November, it be virtually impossible to get your hands on a sim free one in Sept or even Oct for that matter.

I currently have a Galaxy S5, so I'm in no eager rush to buy one on launch, I'll just wait until the mad panic to get one on launch is out of the way first.
