nMP Memory Question - The same if ordered Seperate?

You did notice that Apple's RAM page shows a green stick, and not black?
Don't know if that means you'll get a green one anyway, but the color in no way indicates the compatibility of the stick, also does not mean that a "black" stick was made specifically for a MacPro. The stick is not visible with the cover in place, eh? Order the Apple store one if you like. What would you do if you get a green, not black? (or even not Hynix, Apple uses several memory suppliers, like all other computer makers) It will still function if the specs are correct.

First things first, There are Apple specialists that sell RAM that works in the Mac Pro. The Vendor I have used since 1986 is:

As you can see, their 4GB DIMM is $66.00 vs. Apple's price of $100.00. The RAM is exactly the same specification as Apples.

Second, you ask about the DIMMs in your current machine. The DIMMs from your old Mac Pro will indeed work in your new Mac Pro, but the speed of your old RAM is 1366MHz and the nMP uses 1866MHz, so the machine might be a bit slower.

However, please don't fall into the trap that the RAM Apple supplies is Mac Pro specific, because it isn't. Again, as long as the specifications meet Apple's, any good quality RAM will be quite reliable the in nMP.

As an aside, in all those years of using Data Memory Systems being my sole RAM supplier, I have never received a bad stick of RAM. And they have a Lifetime warranty. I've only used it once, for a Transend USB stick that I bought from them that failed after about 5 years.
