Messages not going through via iMac

I don't know if this is just me but I can't seem to reply back through my computer. iMac late 2012. iMessages work but replying to those who don't have iOS products doesn't go through. Everything else works fine for me. I can make calls but not send a message. Any idea why?

I thought you could only send it to people who had iMessage/iOS
