I just got yet another power mac and this one is a MDD single 1.25ghz. I upgraded the ram to 2gb and have 2 hdd in it. Now the problem is whenever I boot it with my aluminum Cinema Display the screen stays black unless I unplug the display from it's power adapter and plug it back in. Now, when using an older Cinema Display with adc plug there is no problem. Anybody have any idea why this happens?

Sounds like the signal is not being properly conveyed to wake it. Does the issue happen with any other machine with that display?

Only other mac which I can use it with is my g5 power mac, no problems there.

I am leaning to a ground problem in the VGA port on the video card. Try swapping GPUs if you can on the G4 to see if it rectifies the issue.

Aluminimum Cinema displays were only ever in a DVI variant. The VGA port would not be causing problems like this.

Do you think this is a ground problem with the port then? If OP is using an adapter of some sort for some reason, that could also be the cause.

It is a dvi connection and there isnt any adapter. Like I said though when I connect my adc cinema display it works no problem, just this aluminum one needs to be unplugged. The MDD makes all the booting sounds but just wont turn on the display. Computer works just great, in fact I'm using it now.

Can you try a different video card in your MDD?

Unfortunately don't have another compatible card for this machine

So essentially get used to unplugging the monitor and plugging it back in every time. Oh well, that's what $10 buys you these days I guess ;)

Yeah, originally the guy wanted $85 but I was able to get it cheaper. Had no ram but otherwise complete.

Well that and he kept lowering the price as nobody seemed interested lol
