Safari/Preferences/General tab.
Change "Remove history items" to the shortest interval.
"After one day" may fit your needs.

If you don't want to keep ANY history, use the Private Browsing... mode, under the Safari menu. Safari will then not remember much of anything about where you browse.
(Try to stay away from the sites that the NSA monitors :D Be careful out there!)

Another way to clear the history (along with other things) IMMEDIATELY is to use the "Reset Safari" option.

I run that almost hourly, not particularly because I don't want anyone to see where I've been, but just to keep Safari running "lean and clean"...

that what i do ,
its my work laptop so cant let the boss find the wonderful websites i go on while at work
