Got my new iPad today but it has a strange issue with the screen. Is this worth taking back to apple???

If it really bothers you, return it. Unless it is brand new you will get a refurb. Refurb or brand new, you are taking a chance on it having another issue.

ITs 1 day old so could take it back to currys, my only issue is i have had an iPad 2 and had to get that exchanged 3 times before i got one close to having no issues..... Seriously concidering a MS Surface

Not necessarily. I've had to return a rmini and an Air twice because of screen issues. Defects happen.
