So everything in finder works fine, when I do cmd+ delete things get deleted immed. Except if they are on the desktop. It plays the sound effect right away but the file does not actually disappear for about five seconds. I tried relauching finder, killall Finder, restarting. I only have a few text files on the desktop, never had this issue before on my old macs.

The exact same thing is happening to me! I only have 3 folders on my desktop. Macbook Pro 13", 2009 model with Mavericks 10.9.4, glad I'm no the only one with this issue.
