Thinking about going Windows fulltime

2011 MacBook Pro.

Thinking about going to Windows fulltime through Bootcamp... I use Solidworks and Keyshot a lot and Parallels ain't cutting it, plus dual-booting with files on each side is annoying. I will probably keep a small partition with OSX on it for updates and incase I want to go back.

Is this a good idea? What's recommended? Windows 7 or 8.1? Will I be able to update to Windows 9 when it comes out?
 
I've heard of folks setting up 3 partitions. Two smaller partitions for Windows and OSX and a large partition for all of the shared files. That could be an option.

Anyway, there isn't anything preventing you from running Windows full time on a Mac. I still prefer Windows 7 over 8.1, but I've also spent more time using 7.

Windows 8.1 has many quirks fixed. Go with that. Yes, those engineering class programs are always best ran under a native setup.
