Is there anypoint in using my 27" imac as an external display

Right now - and from now on at least - my PC is connected up to my iMac (Late 2007) via Mini Display port. Now my question is, do you think this is a waste and does it make sense in simply selling this iMac and using that money towards an external cinema display?

I just think there are people out there who will make better use of this then I am, it seems like a waste of a computer.

Your thoughts?
 
Well, there are money considerations. Compare the cost of a cinema display to what you'd get for that iMac.

I use mine as both a second monitor and a backup computer, file server.
