So, I was encoding in handbrake, looked up at iStat Menus, and saw 99C!!!

Is this ok? I've never seen a machine that I've owned get that hot! As soon as I stopped the encoding process, temps went back to average 49-53..

PS, this is the almost top of the line version with dedicated GPU and 512GB SSD and 2.5GHz i7.

It's very normal, as the CPU works at full speed when encoding.

Mine averages at around 95-99ºC when encoding (late-2013 15" rMBP, 2.6/16/1TB/750M).
 
Yep, unfortunately these are the normal temperatures.

My 2014 15" baseline rMPB sees idle temperatures at 40ºC and under full load it goes as high as 96ºC while gaming.
I wonder how long the CPU is going to live with that temperatures.
