I'm using Apple's 3TB Airport Time Capsule drive ... wifi connection speeds are around 60 MBPS. However, it is taking literally an hour to backup ONE GB ...

I've already disabled spotlight indexing on the drive ... any other ideas? Thanks!

The Time Machine is NOT connected to a 3TB USB drive. It is the time machine airport extreme that comes WITH a 3TB drive ...

Yes, the 3TB Airport Time Capsule.

I read an article that ejecting the time machine backup from the finder's sidebar may speed it up. Fingers crossed, but that may have worked.

Nope, didn't work .. It sped up for about 30 seconds and now it's dragging again ... hasn't moved in well over a minute.

After upgrading OS, indexing took many days and nights, and Time Machine was going even more slowly. I was told by Apple Support that TM needs the indexing to do its backup. so I turned TM off. When the indexing was complete Time Machine then did the backup quickly.

Maybe try connecting an ethernet cable for the duration of the initial backup? That would rule out any WiFi issues, and should backup quicker.
