Playing HD video files on iPad

I downloaded a PDF file that has written instructions as well as HD videos on my new iPad.
I can view all the written instructions but the videos won't play. I was told to download ez PDF Reader to view the videos, and I did. But the videos still won't play. I will admit I am a new iPad user and trying to figure it all out so maybe I'm missing a step.

Anyone have any suggestions???

Can you link to the PDF for us to check what instructions you were given?
Do you know what iOS version you use? And if so, can you tell us?
And for video playback, at least MP4 and some MOV files, the VIDEOS app will work, but I guess you have AVI and MKV files you want to play back?

I can't link it because it is a purchased tutorial. But here is what the written instructions are:
"For all tablets, iPads and mobile devices, the Adobe reader does not play HD. You can use the new PDF viewer called EZ PDF to view the files. This is our recommended and preferred viewer for our files".
They are MP4 HD videos.

The iOS version is 7.1.2

And where do you get those MP4 files?

Normally it does suffice to use iTunes to get those MP4 files, even HD ones, to your iPad and then play them back via the VIDEOS app.

If you download them via your iPad, the download app normally takes care of playback.

I got the files from the artist that created them. He has a website that he offers many lessons. They are downloaded from his site. I first downloaded the file on my iMac and then transferred it to my iPad. And I did to through iTunes to download the EZ PDF reader.

But why do you use that EZ PDF reader app?

Does it not work like shown here via dragging the MP4 file to iTunes MOVIES section at the top and then dragging the MP4 from there to the MOVIES section on the iPad?

First, thanks for being patient with me. I think I will delete the file and reader from my iPad and start all over again with those instructions you just sent. I'll let you know how I do with that.

One more thing....I noticed in the link, it shows dropbox. Is that something I need as well?

You do not need it, but it can be quite useful.

I have Dropbox to store my tutorial screenshots for this forum (and the video of course), to store some projects, some application data that can take advantage of that to synch between my desktop Mac and MacBook Pro and some other stuff.

The advantage of DropBox is, you can access the files stored there from everywhere you have internet access and the files are also stored locally.

PS: Did that video help getting your original problem solved?

I did look at your video. When I launch iTunes, my file is located in Books.
I got a similar screen as yours on the left (a little different I guess because yours is a mini) but I don't get another screen like yours that says "shared folder" where you did the drag and drop to the left screen.

The whole file is a combination of the written instructions and the videos. In otherwords, it's all in one. Does that make a difference?

It does not make a difference, but I am confused, thus can you make a screenshot of your iTunes window (Mac OS X) and attach it to your next post?

It worked.

Enable the Sidebar via
MR2ss_2014_08_21_pA1_iTunesShowSidebar.png

That way it will look like in the video.

And I still am not sure, how iBooks is involved.

When I launch iTunes, my file is located in Books.

Well, it didn't work that time I guess.

It does work if you follow the instructions in the guide you looked at earlier, but here is the image.

As you now have that sidebar, do as the video did.

Drag the video or videos from Finder (you downloaded those videos via Safari and they are probably in your Downloads folder) to the upper MOVIES section.
When that is done, click on the small right arrow on the left of your iPad name (Nancy C....) to expand to the view you see in my video.
Now drag from the top MOVIES section to the iPad's MOVIES section.

If that does not work, we have to bring out the big guns, or we just go to sleep. Luckily there is a 24 hour supermarket near me where I can do that.

Yeah, I know I screwed up on that one! Like I said...I'm brain dead. I'll do a fresh start tomorrow morning and probably will do a lot better. The heck with the super market! I'm going for a glass of wine!!!!

Well....best laid plans...as they say. I fully intended to be here this morning to work on this but life got in the way. I'm not giving up though.
But I have a question for you.....if I already have the file on my ipad, why do I need to do the directions you suggested? Could it be that I transferred it the wrong way? Still, the author of the file said I needed to download the ez PDF reader in order to view the videos. I'm just totally baffled about all of this. But remember, I'm new to iPad and how it all works.

My kids just informed me that they are all coming over day after tomorrow so I will be busy cooking tomorrow and probably won't be back until Sunday.
Don't give up on me......I still need you!

The company Unidocs has 3different ezPDF apps in the App Store. Which one did you download? Not sure why the author suggested downloading this app. This app supports .mp4, .mov, .mpv, and .3gp video. It should play back an .mp4 video. Some people have reported success playing back embedded video .pdfs with the Dropbox app.

Not all embedded video .pdfs will be playable on an iOS device. Some early embedded video .pdfs require Flash to playback embedded video. iOS has never supported Flash.

Finally.....I'm all set and can play the videos on my iPad.
I have been working with the company that made the videos and they got me all fixed up yesterday.
