Hi
Have a new iMac and need a drive for occasional CD imports and very occasional DVD burning... Was considering the apple SuperDrive but saw OWC have a bluray for the same price

Does anyone have this or have an opinion as to which would be better? Once in a while I do burn DVDs and would like a BR option if it's a low cost alternative... But not at the expense of reliability or ease of use

Forget both. Go to your local Best Buy and take a look... you can get a non apple Superdrive for well under $50. You can get a BluRay reader for under $80, and a BluRay burner for under $150, all portable. Plus, if you get a bluray drive you get the option to get the player software to watch movies.

Here's a "superdrive" for $30.

Here's a BD drive for under $70.

I strongly recommend you consider a full size external blu ray drive. The slot loads and other smaller units don't last nearly as long and are slower.

Unless I'm reading something wrong, your suggestion saves him exactly $10, while losing the ability to write BlueRay.
