If I encounter a website that doesnt allow the safari suggested password I use 1234 (or something similar) so I can save it in my keychain.
I than go to keychain access, find the corresponding web form password item, and use the password generator to create a different password that is allowed by the website. Once I save it, it syncs perfectly between ios and osx. I than only need to go to the website and update from 1234 to this new password manually, via copy and paste.

I never knew I could do that and it's pretty sweet. Now if they would just integrate the password generator straight into safari it would be even better.
