Hi all,

I have been having this problem with my iMac for several months. After a couple hours of usage, Finder starts to freeze. I tried to relaunch the Finder, but Finder window doesn't come up. I have tried resetting PRAM and SMC, and those are not helpful. I have even clean installed Mavericks, but the problem still exists. What could possible cause the problem. If you guys have any inputs please let me know.

Cheers,

Finder freezes

Try a safe boot. Hold the shift key down while starting.
If the finder acts as it should then, it is something you have installed.
Think about what you have done lately.

Do you have any USB hard drives attached? I had a misbehaving 3 TB desktop drive that was causing finder crashes. I removed it and I am using it as a network attached drive on an Airport Extreme now with no finder crashes.

After the next freeze and restart, open the Console Utility (Applications > Utilities > Console) and look at the log to see what process is causing the issue. Be sure that "All Messages" is selected in the left hand column. Look for any error or failed process.
