iMac freezing up

Lately, my iMac has frozen up when restoring from screensaver (or even while running screensaver).

The Genius at the apple store found nothing wrong with the machine (hardware or OS). His only advise was to "shut down the machine more often."

Huh? Sort of a "Windows" recommendation, IMHO.

Running the same "machine" on another machine via a TM restore shows no problems. Just wondering if anyone has had similar issues and could suggest what might be going on.

Perhaps I should have looked at the system logs?

Confusing.
