Just wondering, when does the iPhone 6 (or any new Apple device) go on display in the Apple Store? Is it after the announcement on the 9th, after the actual release, or sometime after that? Thanks in advance!

On release day. Most likely the 19th.

Is this how it has been in the past? I don't mean to sound like a jerk, I just am just trying to plan a trip to an Apple Store on release day in order to demo but not buy one. The store is a little far from my house so I just want to confirm that I will be able to test one on release day. Also, how accessible are the newly released demo devices? Obviously there will be an increased crowd but am I looking at a 10 minute wait possibly or a few hour wait? Sorry if I seem demanding, I'm not trying to be! Thanks again in advance!

They have always been set up for demo in stores on launch day. Apple wouldn't put their new iPhone on display before then.

As for crowds: it'll likely be very busy, and while I don't have personal experience, you shouldn't have a problem getting access to one.

Yup

From past experiences, on launch day Apple closes the store for regular shopping, you're not allowed to walk around to shop unless its for accessories and they typically ask you while you wait in line what model, color and carrier you want. If you want to demo the devices, you'll have to go in once the lines are gone later that day.

Everyone in line wants to go in and out and the employees are set up to get customers out as quickly as possible. I remember for the iPhone 3G launch that employees walked out into the lines to let everyone see and hold the phone before going in, but haven't seen than happen in a while.

What time would you say is the earliest I should go? I get out of school at 2:30 so would 3:30pm be too early to try a demo or no? Also, the location I am looking to go to is at a mall so I'm not sure how the camping out and the lines are going to work...not sure if the mall thing makes a difference or not...

Yup I wouldn't expect it out for demo until launch date. Any earlier, it would sabotage their iPhone 5C and 5S sales. Yes people will still be buying those phones after they keynote. :)

You will be able to demo phones at 3:30 but it's unlikely you will be able to buy one. They'll most likely be sold out by then.

Exactly. I remember trying to buy an accessory for my MacBook Pro at the Apple Store back on the day when the iPhone 3GS was released (completely forgot that it was releasing that day). I went probably mid-afternoon, and it was packed with a line out the door. However, I walked up to the front and a Specialist greeted me and asked if I was here to buy the iPhone 3GS, to which I said no and explained to him that I just wanted to buy an accessory for my MacBook Pro. Got in fairly quickly.

Honestly, I'd say go in the evening an hour or two before the store closes. Much less likely to have a crowd at that time.

Thanks everyone! Really appreciate the feedback! I will go at around 4:30 or 5 then. I would imagine that by this time the store will have either helped all of the customers or sold out.

Quick side note on that time: if Apple opens pre-orders for the 6, people working who pre-ordered it may rush to the store after work. Shouldn't be as busy as the early morning and afternoon though.

But if that time slot works for you, then by all means go for it!

Whenever there's a new product launched, I usually go and have a quick look as it's on my way home from school.

I usually get there at 3:45 pm, and the crowds have died down as they've sold out but you can still easily get a go on the demo units.

From my experience you have to wait in line only if you want an iPhone. You can go inside and shop for Macs, iPads and even old iPhone models.
Of course you can walk in and try the phones you can find on desks, then if you want to buy one you have to exit the store and join the queue.
