My buddy looking to buy a used iPad Air 32GB LTE and is getting $550 offer, should be jump on it?

A 32GB Apple refurb with cellular is going for $619 and that comes with a 1 year warranty.

A new one is $729.
A refurb would be in the $600 range.

It's up to him to accept it or not.

So he should get the refurb?

If he has to buy now then yes, i'd go with Apple because there's NO risk and he'd get a 12 month warranty and can extend it with Apple Care.

Personally, i'd wait because we should find out what the new iPad's will feature in the next 4-6 weeks.

I told him to wait but he's in a "buy now" phase

Nothing wrong with buying now. The current Air is a great device as is. The updates may not appeal to him anyways.

For about $70 bucks plus sales tax I'd go with the refurbished Air from apple. The warranty alone is worth the extra money.

If it's a toy for the user or just to say I finally have an iPad he should wait another few weeks. It's not the end of the world. Any iPad he buys now will drop in price in a couple of months when the new ones show up. ;)

Now if the buyer needs it for work or productivity then that's different and maybe should not have waited so long in the current product cycle.

Tell him to buy refurb online now if he wants it now now. He has 2 weeks to return it to an apple store. In that time maybe more will become known about the new ones.

There have been so many iPad sales even near launch time ($100 target gift card) and more recently staples deal that was like $130 off.

Many people aren't paying anywhere close to $729 for 32gb lte iPad air. Probably closer to $629 effective price plus taxes.

If I had gotten iPad air for $629 effective price and got offer of $550. I would sell it if used for more than 6 months.
