I need to make a decision on which combo to keep and which to sell (since both were just about dead on the same cost). Which do you think is a better combo of MacBook and iPhone?

A.) Late 2013 13" Retina MacBook Pro 8/256 + iPhone 5s 64GB
or
B) Early 2014 13" MacBook Air 4/128 + iPhone 6 64GB

I have a Mac Mini in the house that is my media server, so regarding storage on the MacBook, I only use ~45 GB with everything loaded. Thanks in advance for your opinion!

Also, while the display on the rMBP is absolutely fantastic, the reason I like the MBA as well is because more than 60% of the time I am using the MacBook with the lid closed at my desk while connected to an external monitor.

Retina Macbook for sure, the screen is amazing.

Absolutely agreed. I just sometimes feel like I waste it by running it the majority of the time with the lid closed while connected to my monitor.

But 1680x1050 in a 13" screen is sweet!

5S is a great phone still, whereas the Macbook Pro is really, much better than the Air.

The upgrade between the two laptops is much greater than between the two phones to be honest. (Does depend on what your using it for of course, but the Pro will be a better laptop in years to come).

MacBook Pro, don't buy the phone. Save up and get the iPhone 6.

Well, that would be the best of both worlds :) I'd have to dump the iPad Mini Retina though which I was figuring I'd keep though since it's great for light browsing in bed and watching shows from the TiVo on a plane when traveling.

Whatever you do don't get an Air with 4 GB of memory. Seriously save up a little.

More memory is always better of course, but I've never had any problems previously with 4 GB RAM on a Mac (Windows was another story).

You're going to get a different response here, different response on the MBA forum and a different response on the MBP forum.

I'd maybe ask on the Buying Advice forum - should be more impartial.

Good point. Is there a way to move this thread there? Or just leave this as-is.

Iphone 6 + mba. Hold out for the new mba, presuming (hopeing) that will have retina. But it also depends on what you use your mb for as to whether you'd need the mba or rmbp...

A retina 12" MBA would be perfect for me!

Most of what I do on the computer is web browsing, email, office apps and minimal photo and video editing. Very rarely 2D auto cad.

Get whatever is cheaper. It'll be old in 10 months anyway.
