iOS 8 Safari new tab crashes in Portrait orientation

Is anyone seeing way too many Safari crashes in iOS8? I rebooted my phone just to be sure, but while on facebook.com, I click random articles, it goes to open a new window to view the article/link, boom crash to desktop.

Update: it appears this only happens while holding the phone in portrait orientation
