My iPhone 4 is not charging. It is also in DFU mode. This all started when I dropped it, it fell about two inches, but the back came off because I didn't have screws in. The battery fell out. The speaker assembly lost a prong or two during this whole ordeal. I re-attached the battery as I have done many times, only this time, even though the phone was plugged in, the battery would not charge. It otherwise functioned normally and eventually died when the battery ran out.
Since then, I have purchased and inserted a new battery. When I plug the phone in, its in DFU mode, and the new battery doesn't seem to charge either. It doesn't even get warm, after hours of being plugged in. The phone is in DFU mode up until the second the phone is unplugged from a power source. When I try to recover and re-install IOS with iTunes, the screen goes black within a minute and iTunes gives me a "2001" error, meanwhile the phone begins to light back up and goes back into DFU mode again. From this point on, its a vicious cycle. I've tried different power cords, and different USB jacks on my MacBook, but the outcome is always the same.
From the info I've given, I'm wondering what the diagnosis is. I'm wondering what possibilities are left, and which issues can be ruled out. One more thing I will add is that the home button has not worked what-so-ever, for years. I've used assisted touch all this time. Thanks for sharing your info and knowledge my friends!
