I am an European and just arrived in NYC.
So I bought a nice Verizon iPhone 6 off Ebay. It was a nice sealed brand new one. So everything looks good.

I am in the US right now, and trying to activate this new iPhone 6, but it says ''unauthourized device'', which probally means I need a contract with Verizon which I dont have.

Is there a way to activate this iPhone here in NYC so I can start using the iPhone?

thanks for your time!

Your Best bet is to go to a Verizon Store and have them do it for you.

No, all verizon iphone 6 models are fully unlocked and you dont need any contracts to activate it with any gsm sim card.
Unauthorised device?
Where does it give you that message? I never heard of that before.
Maybe unsupported sim?
Post a pic of the message screen if you can.

if you are trying to activate phone for first time, you need to have a valid sim card. Any GSM will do.

@ FireCapt

I just went to a Verizon Store here in Manhattan, the lady told me I need to have a contract with them in order to activate the iPhone and only then I can use it.

Do you have the verizon sim card, no card or what inside of the phone? If you have no sim card, then that's your problem.

wow guys! Thanks for all the support already! really nice of you! :))

I tried the original Verizon sim, no succes. Tried my own working European sim which I am using in my iPhone 5, no succes. ;(

Any other sollutions?

thanks again guys

Take out the sim that came with it.
Put in a working US gsm sim card from another carrier.
Make sure you're connected to wifi and then the phone should activate.
It should activate with your netherlands gsm sim also if you're connected to wifi.
You're 100% sure its a verizon iphone 6 and not a Sprint iphone 6 right?

Did your 5 with the European sim card work in the US? If so, hook it up to itunes on your computer and activate that way.

100% sure Verizon. It was sealed box and in the iPhone there was a Verizon simcard

----------

jep, my old iPhone 5 is working normal with my European simcard here in New York

Do as applejuiced said over wifi, or via itunes on your computer.

thanks guys,

tried via Wifi and via iTunes, I am getting the same error message about unautorized device.

Anyway, for those who took their time for me: thanks....really!:)

also tried my girfriend's simcard (which she is using in her iPhone 5S right now), als no succes.

The lady at the Verizon Store did say that when I am in Europe it can be activated, but not here in the US due to the fact I do not have a contract with Verizon

@ applejuiced; yeah, you're 100% right on that! haha

he has a score of 99,8% after more then 400 auctions, mainly expensive MacBook's.

Why not go buy a cheap prepaid verizon 4g phone. Buy the cheapest service u can prolly $10-$20. Then take out the SIM card in there have it cut down to nano size. (most small cell stores have sim cutters) stick it in the iPhone 6 and you should be able to activate and then you will be good to go.

Weird cause it should activate with any gsm sim.
Give a tmobile or AT&T sim card a try also to see if it activates by any chance. See if you can borrow someones for a minute just to test it out.
Be connected to wifi so the activation process can go through and let us know if that did it or not.
Best of luck to you.

This is very strange -- would be the first time hearing of a VZW iPhone 5S or newer having this issue.

If I were you, I'd try at least one more thing before giving up: put the SIM from your European carrier in the device, and then have iTunes do a full restore on the iPhone (followed by activation via wifi). I have no idea whether this will work, but perhaps it will reset something that is causing the issue.

Restore the os from within iTunes, doing a complete factory reset. This will remove the Verizon activation, allowing you to activate it with your gsm SIM card. Had to do the same when trying to activate a vzw 6 with an AT&T card.
