Handoff not working properly

Hi All. Ive been trying to use handoff and im only partially succesfull, If can get the icon for the app appearing on my iphone lockscreen and on my mac dock how ever when i actually unlock my phone or click the icon on my dock it will open the respective app however none of the body text will copy over, for example if i started a imessage on my mac and went to continue it on my phone, it will open the message to the person but none of the text i wrote on my mac would copy over, same with mail, if i started it on my phone my mac will just open a blank message with no contact, no subject or any body text copied over.
