Is anyone using a 27'iMac via Thunderbolt with a NMP?

Hi, I am using two 27 inch iMacs in target display mode with my D700 2013 Mac Pro, one is via a thunderbolt cable and the other (older iMac) via minidisplayport cable. The Thunderbolt iMac does not wake from sleep - I have to switch on the display and switch it over to target display mode again manually every time the energy saver kicks in, has anyone else experienced this? Thanks
 
I did for a short time, but it got hot after a few hours. My cinema display barely gets warm, but it doesn't have a computer inside it either.
