iPhone 4 messages not appearing

I have an iPhone 4 with the most recent update. My messages app has been screwy all morning. It says I have 7 messages and I never deleted any messages but all my messages are gone and I cannot view them. I know I am not the only one with this problem. I have closed and reopened the app with no luck. I have restarted my iPhone, and nothing. It's frustrating to see a notification and I cannot see it. Is there a fix for this? I've looked around and didn't find anything.
